CHC: Creating Healthier Communities

About CHC: Creating Healthier Communities: We are a national nonprofit committed to helping public organizations connect with communities, nonprofits, and businesses to drive meaningful change. With nearly 70 years of expertise and a network of leading nonprofits, we’re here to help create healthier communities for all Americans.

Turning Generosity Into Measurable Change: Workplace giving is a vital source of predictable income for nonprofits. Regular contributions from employees provide nonprofits with financial stability to plan strategically and respond effectively to community needs. Additionally, the collective power of workplace giving amplifies its impact. Whether employees donate $2 or $200 per paycheck, their combined generosity can make healthier communities where everyone can thrive. Here are some examples of what your dollars can do:

  • $1 per pay period will help provide free health education resources to the public.
  • $5 per pay period will help provide financial assistance for individuals facing expensive health challenges.
  •  $10 per pay period will help fund support services for newly diagnosed patients, caregivers, and survivors.
  • $20 per pay period will help grants for medical research to discover cures and improve treatments that benefit millions across the country.

When our community is healthy, everyone benefits.

Greater Twin Cities United Way

United is the Way.

Greater Twin Cities United Way’s mission is to unite changemakers, advocate for social good, and develop solutions to the challenges no one can solve alone. Our vision is a community where all people thrive regardless of income, race, or place.

Greater Twin Cities United Way is unique because we meet urgent community needs in housing, food, education, and jobs while making lasting change to end persistent inequities so all can thrive. Our work is responsive to evolving community strengths and needs, and our impact is lasting, because we cultivate longstanding partnerships with communities, employers, policy makers, and supporters. We invite you to join us in this work by volunteering, giving, and advocating for a community where all people thrive.

Our Impact Together

In 2024, you made it possible for Greater Twin Cities United Way to touch the lives of over half a million people in our region. Together, we:

  • Responded to more than 241,000 requests via our 211 resource helpline from families struggling to pay for housing and put food on the table, parents seeking quality child care, young adults facing homelessness, and more.
  • Answered nearly 33,000 calls to the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, providing hope for a brighter tomorrow.
  • Supported 170 local nonprofit partners in direct service, innovation, and advocacy so that everyone in our region has access to healthy food, stable homes, educational success, and economic opportunity. In addition to unrestricted and targeted funding, we provided over 200 hours of technical assistance to build nonprofits’ capacity.
  • Successfully advocated for more than $50 million in funding for childhood literacy and pre-K programs, increased funding for Minnesota’s Family Homeless Prevention and Assistance Program and affordable housing investments, and improvements in college students’ eligibility for food assistance.

Open Your Heart to the Hungry and Homeless

Open Your Heart to the Hungry and Homeless is committed to ensuring that every Minnesotan is free from hunger and homelessness. Since 1986, we have partnered with organizations that serve those in need, growing donor engagement and increasing awareness. Our sole focus has been to ensure that Minnesotans have access to the most basic of necessities: food, shelter, and safety. Guided by our principle of directing support where the need is greatest, we prioritize those currently experiencing food and housing insecurity.

Despite targeted efforts to reduce hunger and homelessness, the demand for food shelves and shelters remains high. Open Your Heart ensures that frontline crisis service providers have the necessary tools, equipment, and infrastructure to effectively perform their work.

Open Your Heart to the Hungry and Homeless operates solely through the generosity of individuals, corporate partners, and foundations. With a dedicated team of just two staff members, the organization serves as a fundraising ally for small Minnesota nonprofits lacking the capacity to advocate for themselves. Open Your Heart's responsiveness sets it apart in a landscape where many basic needs funders no longer accept unsolicited proposals, ensuring critical support reaches those most in need efficiently and effectively.
